Position Overview 

The Senior Manager, Tax Programs drives successful completion of operations initiatives and programs by leading and tracking progress toward critical milestones throughout the planning, scheduling, and implementation phases. This is accomplished individually or through overseeing their team.  They establish, coordinate, and execute large scale, cross-functional programs from initiation through delivery, by coordinating with stakeholders and cross-functional team members. This role will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of their assigned team.

The senior manager, tax programs is responsible for leading and executing complex programs and projects, personally or through their team. They will leverage deep payroll tax subject matter expertise to execute on the primary responsibilities below: 

  • Manages programs from inception through completion; including defining the business case, creating objectives, planning, facilitating working sessions, driving and overseeing the progress of cross-functional teams, tracking project deliverables and deadlines, identifying dependencies and project risks, and publishing project status reports 
  • Works cross-functionally to identify areas of opportunity for new programs that create efficiencies, streamline processing, increase accuracy, or would otherwise enhance tax operations and works with tax operations and compliance leadership to set strategy for tax programs team 
  • Engages and motivates key partners to ensure completion of objectives across the tax programs team’s priorities 
  • Defines strategies and implementation plans for transformational programs 
  • Implements new operational tools and enhancement to existing tools to enable operational effectiveness  
  • Creates solutions which improve business performance and efficiency 
  • Builds implementation strategies and educates stakeholders 
  • Leads and facilitates improvement programs using appropriate methodologies to ensure objectives are met  
  • Regularly reports progress of key initiatives to tax operations and compliance leadership and senior leadership stakeholders as needed  
  • Understands and reports key metrics related to in-flight or completed programs, including gained efficiencies, increased revenue, and/or decreased costs 
  • Ensures team’s project priorities and solutions align with the organization’s strategic direction  
  • Develops project documentation to facilitate sharing of project outcomes and best practices 
  • Engages business leaders to resolve any obstacles which may be encountered 
  • Responsible for the overall management of their assigned team which may include but is not limited to delegation of work, development, performance management, hold recurring 1:1s, hire and onboard new team members. 
  • Manages, leads, and develops direct reports in areas of performance and career advancement. 
  • Selects and hires staff as needed.  
  • Other duties as assigned  

Education and Experience 

State the minimum education, experience, skills and certifications/training required to successfully perform the job.  

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience  
  • 7+ years of project management and process improvement experience 
  • 5+ years Payroll service bureau and payroll tax and compliance experience required 
  • Previous people management experience required, leader of leader experience preferred  
  • Experience within a customer service focused organization required

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $116,900 - $175,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. This information is provided per the relevant state and local pay transparency laws for the location in which this position will be performed. Base pay information is based on market location.
