Utah Requires E-Returns for Quarterly State UI Tax
May 16, 2019
Beginning July 1, 2019, the Workforce Services department requires employers in Utah to file quarterly state unemployment insurance tax returns electronically.
Alert
The Department of Workforce Services of Utah recently announced its mandatory requirements for state unemployment insurance (UI) tax. Beginning July 1, 2019, the Workforce Services department requires employers in Utah to file their quarterly UI tax returns electronically. The department will refuse to accept any paper forms after the effective date and will return the paper forms to the employers.
Employers are expected to file electronically beginning with the second quarter 2019 reports due on July 31, 2019. Employers may use the Utah Department of Workforce Services online portal to electronically file and make tax payments via electronic funds transfer (EFT). The state’s online tool will calculate the tax liability for employers, as well as allow employers to make EFT payments for one or more accounts at once.

Due to this new requirement, it is important that employers are registered with the Department of Workforce Services for employees subject to Unemployment Tax in Utah and the employer’s assigned account number is provided to Paylocity.
